Couple Story: Matthew & Joanna
Vintage weddings are always a joy to photograph. With unique details and styling, weddings like this always stand out. Joanna and Matthew held their vintage wedding in Manchester city centre. Here are my favourite photographs from this Manchester city centre wedding.
VINTAGE WEDDING PICTURES
With thousands of weddings held every year in Manchester and the UK, engaged couples are going above and beyond to ensure that their big day is unique. This was my first time capturing vintage wedding photography, however I have photographed many alternative weddings in the past. The most alternative wedding I have ever photographed was Claire and Keegan’s Manchester Museum wedding. This wedding is a must see!
The Rock N Roll Bride blog is a huge source of inspiration for vintage wedding photography. Kat, the owner of this hugely successfully blog really is an expert in vintage styling. She always has awesome hair too!
Wearing a short 50’s style wedding dress from Maggie Sottero, Joanne looked awesome. To complete the vintage look she wore bright red shoes from Rainbow Club with a matching red rose bouquet courtesy of Royal Flowers. Finally, I must mention the cheese wedding cake by Hickson & Blacks which was incredible!
Bethany from The Vintage Beauty Parlour was on hand for the hair and makeup. She was absolutely amazing and Joanne was incredibly pleased with her work. Vintage makeup is a niche in the wedding market and Bethany is a specialist in this field.
Rocking the glamour look, Joanne was the definition of a vintage bride. Getting ready in the city centre, the bride and her sister were extremely excited about the day ahead. As a vintage wedding photographer in Manchester, bridal preparation is always an entertaining start to the day. The morning is calm and relaxed, yet later on it’s always a mad rush! This is when the best moments happen. Luckily, this bride was on time and we were able to capture some lovely wedding photographs at the Manchester Town Hall.
CLASSIC AMERICAN VINTAGE WEDDING CAR
Organising a wedding is always made easier if you have friends that can help you out. Luckily, Joanne’s friend Ben owned an awesome vintage wedding car and is the founder of Classic American. Classic American is the UK’s number 1 American car magazine. Ben was on hand to chauffeur the bride and groom around for the day, plus drop us into the Northern Quarter for some quirky pictures.
MANCHESTER TOWN HALL WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
With the ceremony and celebration drinks being held at the Manchester Town Hall, this spectacular venue made a great backdrop. With huge stained glass windows, photography here is really interesting when using natural light. Because of the directional light, photographers can use this to capture sharp images without flash, or experiment with silhouettes.
Following on from the marriage, it was time for the official wedding photos. With the Northern Quarter only a short drive away, it made sense to head there for some urban shots. Joanne wanted her photography to match the vintage style of the wedding, so I picked out some super-cool locations.
With so much colour to work, the Northern Quarter streets are a dream for any wedding photographer. This suited my contemporary style perfectly!
